Bio

Allison Yura is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving clients in-person in Chicago and throughout the state of Illinois via telehealth. Allison has dedicated her career to working with parents and young families, and is skilled in supporting hopeful, expectant, and new parents through the changes, challenges, and joys that many encounter throughout the transition to parenthood.

A seasoned psychotherapist, Allison first began working with new parents in 2010 as a NICU social worker, and later provided in-home early intervention services to families with infants and toddlers. Allison has since completed advanced training in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International, which is the gold-standard in peripartum mental health care. Her background in medical settings provides a strong foundation to help parents navigate issues such as medically complex pregnancies, fertility challenges, infant loss, as well as postpartum depression, anxiety, and shifts in identity and relationships.

In session with Allison, clients can expect to feel deeply seen and heard through a patient-centered, holistic approach. Allison blends skills-based approaches that focus on the here-and-now and empower clients to use cognitive reframing, mindfulness skills, and emotion regulation tools. Allison is also certified in Yoga Informed Psychotherapy, bringing somatic awareness and stress reduction techniques to increase mental and physical wellness.

Beyond the professional, Allison was met with her own complex journey to motherhood, experiencing infertility and pregnancy loss before welcoming a healthy baby in 2019. This personal experience has affirmed her passion to support families as they adjust to parenthood and face both the joys and uncertainties that come along.

Message to new parents

While I have enjoyed working with the perspective, expectant and new parents since the beginning of my career, my passion increased when my own family planning hit a number of bumps. Through both professional training and personal experience, I can offer a unique perspective to families as some one who truly gets it.
