Dereka is a maternal healthcare practitioner with a passion for all things new parents and babies. In addition to daily operations at Carter Comprehensive Birth she specializes in working with High Profile and Ultra High Net Worth families that travel the world and enjoy parenting while doing so. She prides herself in being friendly, warm, empathetic, and flexible. She is evidence based but happy to support your goals in a non judge mental way while helping educate in this new phase. Dereka has a deep understanding of newborn care, effective communication skills to educate and support parents; a compassionate approach, the ability to work with new parents during critical times, and staying updated on current practices in newborn care.
With over 13 years of dedicated experience in supporting families during one of the most transformative times in their lives, Dereka is a multi-racial birth and postpartum doula committed to providing compassionate, inclusive, and culturally sensitive care. Her journey began with a deep passion for helping others and a belief that every family deserves personalized support tailored to their unique needs. After the loss of her own daughter shortly after birth she felt called to supporting others.
She has had the privilege of working with diverse families from various backgrounds, ensuring that each person's cultural practices and beliefs are respected and integrated into their birthing experience. Her holistic approach combines evidence-based information, emotional support, and practical assistance to create a nurturing environment for both birthing individuals and their partners.
As a certified birth and postpartum doula, she offers a range of services, including prenatal education, labor support, and postpartum care. She believes in empowering families through knowledge and advocacy, helping them navigate their choices confidently and comfortably.
In addition to her doula training, I have continuously sought out opportunities for professional development, including workshops on trauma-informed care, lactation support, and infant sleep and midwifery. Her goal is to provide families with the tools and resources they need to thrive during this beautiful journey of parenthood.
When she is not supporting families, she enjoys spending time with her own four boys, engaging in community activities, and advocating for maternal health equity.
I love working in the birth industry because I know that I am attributing to the long-term well-being of the family unit. Not just mom or baby but helping to create a foundation for a happy healthy family.
