Maricela Rueda

Dallas
Texas
Birth & postpartum doula

Maricela ‘Mari’ Rueda was raised in North Side Fort Worth TX around birth, babies, siblings, cousins, niblings (nieces/nephews), and community. Giving birth in 2013 and feeling lack as a single-parent she is here to hold space for those who welcome a helping hand. She has almost 3 years of personal chest-feeding experience initiated by a soft and patient WIC lactation consultant that waited hours in her dimmed office for a hungry and tired infant’s cry to be calmed by that first latch. Maricela's priority is advocating for natural and pleasurable birth experiences driven by informed consent, education, and empathy.

Maricela was certified in 2024 through Paradigm Doulas Perinatal Coach program on fertility, birth, and postpartum care.

As a young mother, striving for connection, Maricela was a mom in public and spoke about children at the meeting place, open mic, or community event in general. She carried her postpartum power into spoken word events as a host and poet in 2017-2018. Her child mimicking this action and bringing their own Open Mic to preschool at the age of 4. That child now 11 and carrying that confidence into middle school has got Mari preoccupied when not cuddling with the household critters, walking barefoot in the garden, dancing, listening to music and cooking nourishing food, or joining in on whatever potluck or book club her friends and community have to offer.

Resulting in women who are able to courageously embrace the journey of motherhood by relearning themselves as the women God crafted them to be.

A nurturer at heart, by age seven Ciara’s hobbies included taking her Barbie dolls to school, crafting fancy grilled cheese sandwiches and binge- watching TLC’s “A Baby Story” on weekends with her mom. By age 10 Ciara attended three births of family members which reinforced her passion to be in as many birth rooms as possible.

Doula care FAQs

The right support during pregnancy & postpartum can make all the difference. Learn more about what a doula can do for you.

How do I find a doula?

Find a doula through Partum Health. When looking for a doula, it’s important to find a vetted professional with whom you connect on a personal level: after all, they will be there to support you during the vulnerable times around pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

At Partum Health, we provide one-on-one doula matching services to find the best fit for your family. When you first reach out, you’ll speak with one of our dedicated patient matching specialists who will get to know your pregnancy and unique needs. With a team of postpartum and birth doulas available, there’s no commitment until you’re confident in your doula match.

How much does a doula cost?

Doula care generally starts at $35/hour, and commercial insurance does not typically cover the cost of doula care. Some employers offer reproductive health benefit programs, which can help offset the cost of doula care for eligible employees, and doula care is also typically HSA/FSA eligible.

The cost of doula care varies based on the number of hours and services you select: through Partum Health, birth and postpartum doula services are available in bundled packages to make doula care more affordable.

What is the difference between a postpartum doula and a birth doula?

A birth doula is focused on pregnancy, birth planning, and labor and delivery, while a postpartum doula provides support for the whole family after the baby has arrived.

Doulas are a group of professionals trained to support pregnant people, their birthing partners, and newborn infants.

  • Birth doulas: Focus on birth planning, labor and delivery. May offer one or two postnatal visits, primarily to check in on the health of the birthing person.
  • Postpartum doulas: Provide newborn care, postpartum recovery support, and household management in the postpartum period.
  • Full-spectrum doulas: Work with families throughout pregnancy and postpartum; are certified as both birth and postpartum doulas.

Are doulas worth it?

Clinical research shows doula care during labor reduces C-section rates, shortens labor times, and leads to better infant Apgar scores. While doula care is typically out-of-pocket, it is absolutely worth it.

It’s important to note that doulas are not medical providers, but work alongside your medical team to help improve your experience of giving birth. For those with pregnancy complications, benefits of doula care include decreased birth complications, decreased risk of low birthweight, and increased success breastfeeding.

Postpartum doula care is worthwhile because in addition to the hands-on support in the household and with baby care overnight, they can help monitor new mothers for postpartum depression and anxiety. Especially for first-time parents or those having multiples, sometimes family support isn’t enough, and professional doula care is needed.
